How your data is handled
- Tax Vault is local-only. Documents are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2, 250,000 iterations) and stored in your browser's IndexedDB — on this device, never on a server.
- We cannot read or recover your vault. The passphrase and derived key never leave your device; there is no "forgot passphrase" backdoor by design.
- Deletion is real deletion. "Delete everything" destroys the entire local database including the key-check record. There is no server copy to linger.
- No trackers, no third-party scripts. A strict Content-Security-Policy blocks all external connections. The Learn library and assistant run entirely offline.
- Service requests share only what you type. When you request a paid service, only the details you enter are sent — and only when you choose to send them — to our partner desk. Vault contents are never attached automatically.
Legal & regulatory posture
- DPDP Act, 2023: we practice data minimisation by architecture — the most sensitive data (financial documents) is never collected, so most fiduciary obligations don't attach to it. For service requests we act as a data fiduciary: purpose-limited use, consent at the point of sharing, deletion on request.
- Advocates Act, 1961 & BCI rules: CopyrightNow is a technology platform, not a law firm, and does not practice law. Legal work is performed by independent partner advocates, patent agents, CAs and CSs under their own professional responsibility. Our fee is a platform/technology charge, disclosed separately.
- Not legal or tax advice: the Learn library and assistant provide general information under Indian law. Your situation may differ — engagements with partners include professional advice; the free tier does not.
- Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020: all-inclusive pricing shown before you commit, grievance contact published, no dark patterns.
- GST: 18% applies on our professional/platform fees and is shown before checkout; government fees are collected at actuals.

How it works
It's all one app. Most of it runs on your device and works offline, and nothing about your work or your finances leaves your device unless you choose to send it.
- Learn, for free. Plain-language guides to copyright, trademarks, patents, company registration (sole proprietorship, LLP, OPC, Pvt Ltd) and creator taxes — all under Indian law. No signup, no paywall.
- Ask the assistant. Type a question in ordinary words and get an instant answer drawn from that same library, cited back to the relevant guide. It runs locally, so it answers from verified material rather than making things up.
- Protect your work in 60 seconds. Tell it what you made — a song, artwork, writing, film, photo, logo, code, and more — and it maps the exact right that protects it (copyright, trademark, patent or design), with the government fee, the timeline, and any add-ons like registering your name or locking in collaborator splits.
- Get it done, transparently. When you'd rather hand it over, filings are executed by vetted partner lawyers, patent agents and CAs. You always see the government fee and our fee listed separately — no padded, hidden pricing.
- Keep your tax life private. The Tax Vault stores your documents encrypted on your own device (AES-256, key from your passphrase — we never see it), and a built-in calculator compares the new and old tax regimes for the current year. Nothing is uploaded, and deleting is permanent.
- Trust the numbers. The fees, tax slabs and statutory citations are checked against the government's own sources — the Income-tax Act 2025 and CBDT — and each guide shows when it was last verified and against what, so you can see exactly how current it is.
